1900年前後のアメリカ大陸全土でhoboと 呼ばれる人たちがいた。 彼らは浮浪者・渡り鳥・放浪者等と呼ばれていたが、 彼等には彼等なりの哲学があった。 もちろん自分の歩く道を他人に塞がれたく無い。 さらに体制に属さず全ての束縛を拒否していた。 もちろん合衆国や州にも属さず人生の大半 を無賃乗車で大陸を歩き回っていた。家族も持たず、 所有物も着たきりとバンダナに詰めた少しの荷物だけ。 もちろんお金も無い。 コンピュータを使っている 今の物欲・飽食の時代では考えられないことだ。 東京でも似た人たちを見るが彼等とも少し違ったようだ。 　　　　　　　　　　 ウディ・ガスリーもｈｏｂｏだった。 かつての有名な映画俳優の中にも hoboだった者がいたようだ。 当時の一般的なアメリカ人達は 忌み嫌っていたようだが、 言い換えれば世俗に縛られた人達がｈｏｂｏ達を憧れ、 自分には出来ない諦めとが交錯して その様な風潮になっていたのだろう。 僕もhoboに憧れた。 今も憧れている。 そしてこの様な考えを持ちながら生活に束縛されている、 数々の人達を想い、 HOBO BROS.（ホーボー・ブラザース）という名を付けた。 HOBO BROS.は フリーで 一人きりのデザイン集団である。 hobo(本物の）に関してはリー・マービン が熱演した「北国の帝王」を見て頂ければ その自由さ厳しさが解って頂けると思う。 当時のアメリカではhobo協会 （hobo college)なる物もあった。
